Ella Langley is revealing how she acquired her signature hairstyle — and the story involves a "bad," self-given haircut.
During a Tuesday, April 7 appearance on Theo Von's "This Past Weekend" podcast, the 26-year-old country star spoke about her classic look, featuring shaggy, curly brown bangs. In the interview, she revealed that she was forced to get the haircut after she attempted to trim her own hair.
"I have a bad tendency to cut my own hair," the "you look like you love me" singer told Von during the episode. "Most of the time it goes bad — that’s how I got bangs in the first place."
"I was wearing a cowboy hat for a while, and then I took it off because it was windy one show and it was p---ing me off," she explained. "I decided, 'you know what, I’m gonna take it off.' And I like how my bangs were kind of around my face."
"Like 20 minutes before I walked out onstage, I decided to cut my fringe a little bit, and it was so bad," Langley shared, explaining how she accidentally left herself with a piece of hair sticking straight up off the top of her head.
"I was shooting the cover art for my first record that next week and [my creative director Caylee Robillard] was like, 'Hate you,' " she joked, showing how Robillard gave her the middle finger. "So I just told her full send it with the bangs. I don't think I can ever change it. It changed my life a little bit, I would say."

The "Choosin' Texas" singer has previously been candid about how her style has evolved over the years.
Speaking to PEOPLE in February, Langley opened up about being named the new face of American Eagle.
"I have these photos growing up wearing American Eagle shorts that my mom bedazzled herself. It was the first pair of denim I loved," she said at the time, sharing that her style often involves laid-back looks that still have a bit of "confident, feminine and powerful" charm to them.

"My style in day-to-day life is pretty laid-back, a little outdoorsy, and always about comfort, so working with a brand that celebrates that felt right," she said, sharing that her go-to outfit formula is jeans and a T-shirt, "no question," but she still likes to have fun by mixing vintage pieces with timeless silhouettes.
Langley is set to release her new album Dandelion on Friday, April 10, and then she's off on The Dandelion Tour from May to August.
She told Audacy’s Superstar Power Hour that her latest record was born from the newfound sense of confidence Langley has following her past few breakout years.
“I’m not guessing anymore. I’m not chasing anything. I’m not trying to be anything,” she said. “This record is exactly what I wanted out of it and it is just me, and I feel like this is gonna be my record where everyone’s gonna be like, ‘That’s where the artistry clicked for her.’ "
