Jelly Roll continues to shed light on how he shed more than 200 pounds.
In an E! News interview on Jan. 20, the 41-year-old country music star explained that changing his addictive relationship with food was key to jumpstarting his fitness journey.
"Man, I was on the brink of death. I'm not trying to stand on a soapbox, I'm just passionate about it, knowing how upside down our system is with food. And as an addict, it was hard for me to get away from it, so I did a lot of work with food," he told the outlet.
The "Star Search" judge added that daily cardio was the second crucial step of his fitness journey.

"Running's been my real healer," he added. "(I) wake up and run every day — I mean every day, seven days a week —even if it's a recovery run, it's one mile and it's a 15 minute jog, really slow. I run every day."
Did Jelly Roll take GLP-1 drugs?
While Jelly Roll said he has no judgment for celebrities who use GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, he does not credit the medication for his drastic weight loss journey.
The "Need a Favor" rapper said he only used weight loss medication for two weeks at the start of his process, according to Men's Health.
How much did Jelly Roll weigh?
Five years ago, the Grammy-nominated artist weighed over 520 pounds, adding that it was the maximum number the scale he used could reach, he told Men's Health.
"The needle went past 520, but it didn’t blow it down," Jelly Roll said. "And I would play with it — I would teeter the foot up, like, how low could I get it? I was mad optimistic. So it could have been 560, it could have been 528."
He continued: "I was so fat that I took that weekend and I fasted and just ate a couple of chicken noodle soups. When I came in under 500, I was like, 'I’m finally under 500 pounds!"
He concluded 2025 weighing 265 pounds.
