Legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14.
Their deaths were confirmed after the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to provide medical aid around 3:30 p.m. local time, according to People.
Rob Reiner and Wife Cause of Death
The couple—who were married for 35 years at the time of their death—were found with "lacerations consistent with a knife," TMZ reported. The investigation is ongoing with the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division conducting the investigation.
According to People, the couple was allegedly killed by their son Nick. Law enforcement has yet to confirm People's report.
The outlet later reported that the couple's daughter, Romy, discovered her parents' deceased bodies.
Reiner Family Issues First Statement
Shortly after news of the couple's tragic deaths was confirmed, the Reiner family issued their first public statement.
"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time," the statement read, according to Variety.
Who Was Michele Singer Reiner?
The A Few Good Men director met his second wife, Singer, while filming the classic When Harry Met Sally. The couple fell in love quickly and tied the knot the same year the film was released, 1989.
Reiner later admitted to changing the ending of the beloved film after meeting Singer.
"I’d been married for ten years. I’d been single for ten years, and I couldn’t figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody," Reiner said in an interview with Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on CNN. "That gave birth to When Harry Met Sally. I hadn’t met anybody, so it was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking, and then walking away from each other."
In addition to son Nick, who was born in 1993, and Romy, born in 1997, the late couple also shared son Jake, whom they welcomed in 1991.
Reiner was also father to daughter Tracy, whom he shared with first wife Penny Marshall.
