Role Model is ending his viral "Sally" celebrity guest trend, telling Rolling Stone the bit has run its course
The singer-songwriter will perform "Sally, When the Wine Runs Out" without guests at Primavera Sound in Barcelona
His new album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass releases Aug. 7 featuring the single "High Hopes 3000"
Don't expect "Sally" guests on Role Model's next tour.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter (whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury) reflected on his viral trend of bringing out a celebrity while performing his hit song "Sally, When the Wine Runs Out" and why he's putting the bit to rest.
"I think I'm done," Role Model told the outlet after previously welcoming famous guests including Charli xcx, Hilary Duff, Olivia Rodrigo, Kate Hudson, Natalie Portman and more on stage throughout 2025 and early 2026.

The artist noted that he's performing at the Primavera Sound music festival in Barcelona this weekend, "and I have no plans to keep that going."
"I think it's good to know when to end a bit," explained Role Model, whose new album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass comes out on Friday, Aug. 7. "If this album wasn't good, I'd be like, 'Yeah, we should probably keep the Sally bit going, I gotta sell tickets.' But I feel very good about this record, and I don't think people will even give a s---, to be honest."
For the Primavera Sound performance, Role Model said he plans to simply perform "Sally, When the Wine Runs Out" without a special guest, "and we will see if people start walking away or not."

The musician played his most recent shows in Australia in February and brought out Robert Irwin and Lucy Dacus for the viral trend. He told Rolling Stone, "And while we were on that final stretch, we were just talking about it, and I was like, 'I think we don't need to do this anymore.'"
"I know, I feel in my heart when a bit needs to end. Because if we keep going, it's just gonna die out and be this sad thing," continued Role Model. "The internet is very predictable. I think people are very predictable. And I just know these things have a short lifespan, so I'm gonna get ahead of it."

With his upcoming shows, Role Model wants to "go back to when you can just play f---ing songs."
Looking back on the "Sally" trend, he added, "Listen, that was never a planned thing. We were never like, 'Let's do this thing to make the song blow up and get bigger venues.' It was just a happy accident, and I'm really grateful for it, but I'm not gonna be defined by being the dude who brings out Sallys at his shows."
