People everywhere are "burping" their houses — yes, you read that right.
The trend comes from the German tradition of lüften — literally “airing out” your home — and while it’s been around for generations, it’s suddenly taken over social media.
Across TikTok and Instagram, creators are racing to share videos of themselves opening windows, letting in fresh air and giving their homes a ceremonial “burp.”
"Here's a reminder to burp your house," one creator, Jurneé Hanna, who goes by @jurnee.hanna online, wrote on an Instagram video of her opening the doors in her home.
"Burping your house means opening doors or windows wide open for 5 to 15 minutes to rapidly flush out stale, moist air, reduce condensation, prevent mold, and refresh indoor air quality without significant heat loss, often using cross-ventilation especially in kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms," she captioned the post.
"Get those germs out!!" she added.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Hanna opened up more about why she decided to participate in the German ritual.
"When I shared that moment about 'burping' my house, it was rooted in a very real season of life," she tells PEOPLE exclusively. "My kids had been sick, and opening up the windows felt like a practical way to bring in fresh air and reset the space. At the same time, it also symbolized something deeper for me — creating room for fresh energy, clarity and new opportunities.""That balance between everyday motherhood and personal growth is something I try to share authentically, and I’m grateful it resonated," she adds.

Another woman who goes by @momslovehacks on TikTok also shared a video of her burping her house. "Mom Hack: 'burp' your house each day. (yes, even when it's cold outside,)" she wrote on the video.
Since posting, her video's gone viral, amassing over 300,000 views and hundreds of comments.
"I call it letting the house breathe and I do it every morning while I have my coffee 😁," one person commented.
"First thing I do after I get my kids up and changed is open all of the blinds and windows while they eat. Good for the house, good for me lol," another mom replied.
Someone else wrote, " Immediately went to open windows. Thank you for this."

On Jan. 21, air quality professional Tony Abate, chief technology officer for AtmosAir Solutions, spoke on a TODAY segment and explained that house burping isn’t just a quirky trend — it can actually be good for you.
“You bring in some more air from the outside, you dilute those concentrations and you reduce them,” he said on TODAY.
He also clarified how long people should keep their windows open when participating in the tradition.
“Ten minutes, no more than that is really necessary,” he added.
