Amy Sedaris loves to reminisce on Strangers with Candy.
The comedian recently reunited with Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello for a live event in N.Y.C. to celebrate their cult-classic Comedy Central series, which starred Sedaris, 64, as Jerri Blank, a 46-year-old former sex worker and drug addict who returns to high school after previously dropping out.
“It was a lot of fun,” Sedaris tells PEOPLE of the reunion event. “We all remember such different things. And because they did the bulk of the writing — chopping the wood, as I say — they can remember monologues and the writing process. I mean, we all did it, but they really had to chop that wood, where I was more of a tree decorator as Jerri and threw in my Jerri-isms.”

While many other TV show casts have gotten together for rewatch podcasts, she’s not interested in the idea. “The thing about podcasts is you have to bother people to come on your show, and then once you do someone's show, then someone else will say, ‘Well, you did that show.’ I don't like doing podcasts,” admits Sedaris.
But she does want to continue looking back on the show with Colbert, 61, and Dinello, 63, who portrayed history teacher Chuck Noblet and art teacher Geoffery Jellineck, respectfully.
“I think those guys want to maybe do a tour,” she says. “Maybe we'll do more of what we did here because I go out by myself, and there are a lot of Strangers fans and I answer those questions, but it's more fun with the three of us.”
Since Strangers with Candy ended after three seasons in 2000, the trio did step back into their roles for a prequel film in 2005, but that’s where the story ends. Sedaris says they have no plans to reboot the show.
“We had the opportunity, someone reached out to us, but all three of us separately said, ‘Yeah, no.’ I like that it's stuck in time,” she says, noting that “Jerri pops up in everything I do.”

Given the main character’s irredeemable personality traits and offensive humor, Sedaris doesn’t think Jerri would fit into today’s landscape. “I don't want to play a bigot racist. There's enough of them out there right now,” she says. “They’ll probably get the wrong idea.”
This holiday season, Sedaris is partnering with Amy’s Kitchen for the brand's Night Off campaign, which offers free frozen Amy's meals on Instacart through the end of 2025. “It's a good thing to give people for Christmas,” she says. “Like, straight guys, or they can be gay guys too, but I'm just saying it's a good thing to give somebody single to have in their freezer.”
